• Why is it best to adopt two kittens rather than one?

Unless you already have a kitten or cat in your home (with proof), we only adopt out kittens in pairs. Two cats play together which creates healthier, longer-lived and most importantly, mellower cats around people. They will play together when you’re awake and sleep at night rather than disrupt your sleep. Single kittens often play too hard with children (and adults) and the last two sentences are common reasons that so many cats are surrendered at shelters.

  • What is your adoption process?

Applications, and foster agreements can be found on our website, or in person. Once the application has been filled, our adoption board will review it. If approved, the next step is a meet and greet which would include meeting the animal(s).

  • Why don’t you operate out of a shop?

We are a cage free rescue. All of our animals are kept with qualified foster parents until they are adopted. This keeps them socialized with humans, and minimizes the health risks from multiple caged facilities. It also allows each animal to receive individual attention, so you’ll be adopting an animal in good health, with a stress free head start.

  • Why the emphasis on black cats?

In shelters worldwide, more black cats are euthanized every day than all other animals combined. There are several reasons, completely rooted in ignorance . Black cats have been seen as a symbol of bad luck dating back to the 13th century..  Since black cats don’t get adopted as quickly as others - or at all - they take up space at caged facilities, so tragically, they are often put down to make room for “more adoptable” animals. To make matters worse, many shelters refuse to adopt out black cats for fear they might be abused in certain rituals, so they’d rather end their lives humanely.  We at Stray Pride, through our foster program will hold onto our black cats no matter how long it takes for them to be adopted. The “underdogs” are what we are all about.

  • I want to adopt or foster my first reptile. What steps should I take?

At Stray Pride, reptiles are very important to us. They are the least understood animals of pet industry. Our founder Robert is a reptile expert as are many of our volunteers. Contact us via email or phone and we would be happy to provide information about reptile care. We are always looking for reptile fosterers, provided that you can accommodate the species you are interested in caring for.
