Our motto is singular: ‘Every life is worth preserving, no matter its size, worth, or how common.’

Stray Pride!! Animal Rescue 501(c) is a nonprofit reptile rehabilitation and re-home effort based in NYC that takes in abandoned, neglected and unwanted reptiles and black cats.

In an effort to promote responsible pet ownership and prevent animal abuse, we accept species other rescues cannot—either due to their overwhelming quantity, care requirements, or size.

The majority of our efforts go into relocating the large amount of unwanted aquatic turtles purchased from pet shops or reptile expos in the New York area to outdoor sanctuaries located in safer climates, removing dumped pet animals from our local waterways to lessen their impact our native species, and placing various species of captive-born reptiles and amphibians vulnerable to extinction in the wild into the hands of keepers excited to work with and preserve them through captive breeding.

Our network of volunteers do the majority of the transportation, foster care and public education, effectively making us a ‘cage-less rescue,’ in the sense that all animals we take in are cared for in private homes by those experienced in reptile husbandry who understand species-specific environmental needs like heat, moisture, lighting, terrain and mental stimulation these animals need to not only survive, but thrive.

We set our adoption fees to below market value and promote ourselves on popular reptile sites, encouraging those seeking a new exotic pet to add to their collection to consider adopting a healthy animal in need first.

Minus shipping, sales of these animals goes directly into the veterinary care and maintenance of other surrendered animals recovering from physical issues stemming from inadequate care, surgeries, or simply those seeking permanent placement.
